Don't Forget: Google Cloud Print Is Ending Soon

You may recall a blog we published earlier this year warning about Google ending support for Google Cloud Print on December 31st of 2020. In that blog, we made reference to a few different solutions you could rely on in lieu of Cloud Print, such as native solutions from Canon, Konica Minolta, and other copier manufacturers.

We also expected Google was planning to release another native Google option for printing — especially since this is the method of printing all Google Chromebook models use to print. It seems, however, that Google is forgoing the release of another widely available solution to take Cloud Print’s place. So, where does this leave Chromebook users?

THE OPTIONS CHROMEBOOK USERS HAVE FOR PRINTING

First of all, we should give credit where credit is due — there will still be an option for Chromebook users to print using a Google-based solution: Google Admin console. For organizations that run their network through Google Admin console, their administrator only needs to hop into their network settings and ensure their networked copiers are communicating with their endusers.

This option comes with a few caveats, however: many businesses do not use Google Admin’s services, and this option only works with compatible printers and copiers. Not every model of copier will work.

Google has instead given the responsibility of widely-available printing solutions to third-party printer and copier manufacturers. Luckily, there are plenty of print management solutions to choose from.

Two options that are readily available and compatible with cloud-based networks are Canon’s UNIFlow Online, and PaperCut Mobility Print. For many large organizations already using UNIFlow’s various product levels, your Chromebook users only need to be using a registered UNIFlow Online account, and have downloaded the Chromebook extensions.
